Védís Jónsdóttir has created more than 300 designs for ÍSTEX, Iceland’s legacy wool factory. (ÍSTEX processes more that 99% of all wool produced in Iceland.) Her designs—which are featured in numerous handknitting books—are highly recognized in the knitting world, although very few know the person behind them.
By introducing new shapes and color combinations, Védís has revitalized traditional Icelandic knitting and interest in the use of lopi wool. Made from the fleece of the hardy Icelandic sheep, lopi is lightweight, warm, durable, and water resistant. (And it comes in tons of colors!)
Presentation: Thinking with Threads
Védís will describe the process involved in designing new yarn colors, and will discuss 3-D thinking, the poetry of patterns, and sculptural knitting with non-traditional materials.
