teacher and designer

Saturday, January 10, 1:00–4:00 PM
Check-in begins at 12:30 PM

Mary Annarella loves puns, television shows, and popular songs (and knitting, of course!). Scan the titles of her 150+ designs on Ravelry, and you will recognize references to the Muppets and Mr. Rogers; long-running TV shows like The Big Bang Theory, Only Murders in the Building, and the Great British Bake-Off; and lyrics to lots of songs you know. Along with the humor comes some serious knitting. Mary is also the originator of the modified garter tab cast-on for crescent shawls (banish the dreaded hump!). And her Mystery Knit Alongs have gained cult-like status for their quirky themes, geometric play, and fun stitch patterns.

Presentation: Did You Ever Wonder How a Shawl Design Takes Shape?

Mary will guide us through the process designing shawls in several different shapes. After a painless geometry lesson, we will feel confident about working out our own shawl designs. And yes, she’ll also demonstrate that special cast-on!

Hudson Valley Textile Project (HVTP)

Presentation: You are a Vital Link!

With HVTP, we will take a deep dive into the fiber supply chain here in New York. What are the specific steps involved in creating a textile product in New York and what happens when the chain is disrupted? We will participate in an interactive activity that demonstrates the many hands involved in the local textile industry.

Show and Tell

All knitted projects are welcome at Show and Tell. We can’t wait to see what you created since our last meeting. As always, only one Show and Tell item per meeting, please.

Bring a Guest

Guests are welcome! A guest’s first visit is free. Subsequent visits are $10, which may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.

Drop off the knitting you have done for charity since last we met. Or sit and knit at our Charity Knitting table with Charity Chair Barbara Beckley.
