June 2024 General Meeting

BAKG GENERAL MEETING

Saturday, June 15,, 1–4 PM
(check-in begins 12:30pm)

New York Society for Ethical Culture
2 West 64th Street, Manhattan

GUEST SPEAKER: Mary Pranica, In-House Designer, Blue Sky Fibers

Guests Welcome!

Mary Pranica has a B.A. in apparel design from Mount Mary University in Milwaukee. Since 2020, she has been the Relationship Manager and In-House Designer for Blue Sky Fibers, a Minneapolis-based yarn company that has been going strong for nearly three decades. Founded through a love of alpacas, Blue Sky Fibers now offers a wide range of other natural fiber offerings as well. Recently acquired by Malabrigo, Blue Sky Fibers has a bright future in addition to its fascinating past.

Presentation
Mary will share the story of this successful yarn company and will provide an overview of its yarn range as well as a sneak peek of a forthcoming collaboration with its new parent company, Malabrigo. For our teaching moment, she will take us through a season at Blue Sky Fibers, from the development of a new yarn and then the development of a seasonal theme, to design and pattern concepts and final collection. And there’s more! Blue Sky Fibers is also offering a download code for one free pattern of choice. AND there will fun giveaways, while supplies last.

Show and Tell
Bring it on! We can’t wait to see what you’ve created since our last live meeting. Showing your work will bring joy, spark ideas, and nudge others to complete their own WIPs. (And thus, you may just be saving the life of an old yarn ball stuffed in a closet somewhere!) As always, only one Show and Tell item per meeting, please. And remember to look for photos from past meetings on our website.

Bring a Guest
Guests are welcome! A guest’s first visit is free. Subsequent visits are $10, which may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.

Charity Table
Drop off the knitting you have done for charity since last we met or sit and knit at our Charity Knitting table. Look for photos of these beautiful creations from previous months on the BAKG website and Instagram and Facebook pages.

Book Sale
Come and browse! There are always fun books to pick up at great prices. Cash or check only.
