September 2025 General Meeting

Nicky Epstein

Nicky Epstein is one of America’s foremost knitting designers and authors. Her imaginative designs—which are known for their use of color, creative combination of stitches, and sense of whimsy—have appeared in all the major knitwear magazines.

In a career that spans four decades, she has designed more than 1,100 (!) items of apparel, doll clothes, and home and holiday décor. She has written 30 (!) best-selling books on knitting. Chances are, some of these titles appear on your Must Have list. Nicky has also taught around the world. Follow her on Instagram and Ravelry.

First you knit one square…. Or maybe you knit anywhere from one to 26 squares…. And then you let your imagination take you on a creative adventure. What can you make from it? A hat? A purse or mitts? A vest or a coat? Pillows? Animal-shaped toys? Ponchos? Or any one of a great variety of stunning afghans? Nicky will show some of the amazing items she has designed using knitted squares.

Nicky will bring books, buttons, and beaded bracelet kits to sell. She accepts cash, checks, or PayPal.

The Hudson Valley Textile Project (HVTP) is a network of fiber farmers, dyers, designers, artisans, and manufacturers on a mission to bring regionally produced fiber to consumers, to boost the local fiber economy. From a representative of HVTP, we will learn about local yarns and where to find them.

It’s a BAKG Summer Sock KAL Celebration. Anyone who presents their completed PAIR of Popinjay Socks at the September Show and Tell will receive an adorable (and useful) notions bag.

And yes, all knitted projects are welcome at Show and Tell. We can’t wait to see what you created since our last meeting. As always, only one Show and Tell item per meeting, please.

Auction Chair Trisha Venkatasetty will be accepting yarn for the November yarn auction. Yarn should be in “as new” condition—unused skeins with labels still attached. No small leftovers, no mystery yarns, please.

Please fill out a Yarn Auction Donation Label form before contributing your yarn.

Guests are welcome! A guest’s first visit is free. Subsequent visits are $10, which may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.

Drop off the knitting you have done for charity since last we met. Or sit and knit at our Charity Knitting table with Charity Chair Barbara Beckley
