IN PERSON WORKSHOP
Shetland Lace Basics
with Laura Nelkin
Sunday, April 16th, 2023
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Where: Pearl Studio, 500 8th Avenue, (35th Street), New York, NY
Description of Class
Laura Nelkin is a prolific and innovative knitwear designer and pattern maker with more than 350 (!)
designs—from socks to blankets—on Ravelry. She teaches extensively, both in person and through
Craftsy and YouTube videos, sharing her enthusiasm for knitting with others. She lives in the Fingerlakes
Region of Upstate New York (motto: It’s Gorges!) and is inspired by the landscape around her.
In this workshop, Laura will provide an introduction to the knitting of Shetland lace—its history and the
techniques needed to knit it. She will teach basic increases and decreases and walk you through chart
reading. The skills gained in this class can be applied to many patterns that use lace stitches. More
importantly, you will never fear any lace pattern, whether simple or intricate, ever again!
